Haiku, A Florida State Of Mind

“Airplanes lined up at

Airports are like the toys of

Autistic toddlers”

 

“On the roads of South

Florida the buzzards are

The vacuum cleaners”

 

“Upper Myakka

Lake geezer cruises channel

The African Queen”

 

“High over the palm

Tree hammock’s canopy the

Turkey vultures fly”

 

“There is nothing so

Much fun as messing about

In water taxis”

 

“Englewood: heart and

Soul of the sun coast; a bit

Of heaven on earth”

 

“Florida’s island

Restaurants; it’s not the food

It’s the ambience”

 

“When you go to the

Farmers Market you pray for

Good parking karma”

 

“Englewood Farmer’s

Market: healthy, organic

And full of geezers”

 

“All men are sailors

Until they put in at the

Final marina”

 

“Goldilocks weather:

Neither too hot nor too cold

Nor too much moisture”

 

“Florida wind chill

Real temp sixty-four; feels like

Sixty-three with wind”

 

“Alligators have

Been doing their thing a lot

Longer than humans”

 

“Old Salty Dog; you

Get a lunch you can taste for

The rest of the day”

 

“Parasailing off

Lido Key, Sarasota

Bay; geezers can fly”

 

“An elephant’s hide

Is two inches thick yet they

Can feel flies landing”

 

“What is more scary;

Clowns, teachers, cat ladies or

All of them at once?”

 

“Rhinestones and feathers

Hid the grind and the pain of

Backstage circus life”

 

“Barnum inspired

Trump; sixty million suckers

Were born just last year”

 

“Every abandoned

Railroad right of way needs to

Become a bike trail”

 

“Real estate window

Shopping, Boca Grande, half

To a couple mil”

 

“Lady fisherman

Casts her bait like a girl; gets

More fish than the men”

 

“Pelicans catch the

Fish; little terns just sit there

And catch the tidbits”

 

“Sky hopper can’t fly

Stuck here in Punta Gorda

With no place to go”

 

“Wasting away in

Punta Gordaville without

A shaker of salt”
